I'm STEPHANIE KOVAC. Founder, Owner, President, CEO and Executive Producer of Wishcraft Productions. You could say, the magic starts with me.
I'm a self-described word nerd and an obsessive grammar guru. (I even proof my texts.) My love affair with language has made me a master of messaging. In fact, my colleagues call me the “Michael Jordan of scripting” for my ability to deliver a slam dunk every time.
For more than two decades, the words I’ve written have been measured in the ratings of some of the most successful True Crime shows on television as well as the online engagement of nationwide marketing campaigns of well-known corporate conglomerates, including American Heart Association, United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and international ministry Buckner International.
Admittedly, there’s something that sets me apart. As we say down in N’awlins, it’s that little bit of lagniappe. The difference, I believe, is that I come from a news background.
At 22, I cut my teeth writing for WSVN, Miami’s powerhouse Fox affiliate. The writing chops I gained from my first job in a top 20 television market - at the very station that coined the term "if it bleeds, it leads" - catapulted me to a position in syndication four short years later. The widely emulated entertainment show, Hard Copy, offered an unsurpassed level of creative expression. By age 28, I reached the pinnacle of the industry – network news. Two years later, I formed my own production company.
My hard news background offers a dynamic few writers possess and defines me as a media specialist. It enables me to strategically conceptualize the messaging of multi-media marketing campaigns while catering to key demographics. Not to mention, I can write an unparalleled press release, one that's all but guaranteed to get attention.
Additionally, my storied 25-year freelance career includes an abundance of True Crime production. Being a True Crime producer requires extreme subjectivity and sensitivity. And, scripting such a dark topic calls for enormous balance. (My neighbors constantly caution me from gardening barefoot in snake-ridden south Louisiana but it grounds me.)
Conceptualizing and executing corporate marketing campaigns afford the same equilibrium. I thrive on being part of the collective force involved. Nothing beats working with a diversified team of rainmakers capable of making lightning strike – repeatedly.
In either capacity, I understand my responsibility as a writer. I'm the one who, through the written word, can give voice to a victim or allow a mere idea to take creative shape.
The most powerful person in this world is the storyteller. Allow me to be yours.
